In many infrastructure projects, coatings are still treated as a line item: a product to be selected, priced, supplied, and applied. That view is too narrow.

A coating decision affects corrosion resistance, maintenance frequency, asset life, downtime risk, energy performance, safety, and lifecycle cost. It is not only a product decision. It is an asset performance decision.

A strong coating strategy considers the full environment around the asset: surface condition, exposure category, operating temperature, moisture, chemicals, UV, application method, inspection requirements, applicator capability, and future maintenance access.

This matters especially in pipelines, oil and gas assets, water infrastructure, industrial facilities, roof systems, floor systems, and brownfield assets. A coating that performs well in theory can fail in practice if surface preparation is weak, application conditions are unsuitable, inspection is poor, or the applicator is not aligned with project requirements.

The same applies to thermal coatings, insulation systems, cool roof solutions, and building envelope support. These choices can influence not only protection, but also heat gain, energy demand, operating cost, and long-term asset performance.

The commercial question is not only: what is the coating price?
The stronger question is: what risk does this coating decision reduce across the life of the asset?

PSS looks at coating and asset protection decisions through technical, commercial, applicator, procurement, and lifecycle lenses. The objective is to support decisions that are technically suitable, commercially practical, and aligned with long-term infrastructure value.
